The Kawarau is New Zealands largest commercially rafted river earning it an international reputation for white water thrills.
Flowing through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and overlooked by the extensive Chard Farm and Gibbston Valley wineries, it is a constantly changing mix of calm, gentle waters and boiling rapids.
The Kawarau Gorge is steeped in history and scenic highlights. The unique nature of the canyon allows cliff jumping or even a swim in the smaller rapids. The grand finale is the 400 metre Chinese Dog Leg rapid adrenalin inducing and heart pumping providing one of the biggest white water rides in NZ.

Aptly named rapids Germans Drop, Mother-in-Law, Pinball and Cascade are interspersed throughout the exhilarating 18km trip, which culminates in a spectacular ride through the Oxenbridge Tunnel a 170metre chute that is a legacy of the pioneering gold miners. Although suitable for most levels of experience, confidence in water is an advantage.
