You are far more likely to come across a wild deer on our guided walks than any other trampers and although the areas are remote, the trips are open to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, a sense of adventure and a desire to see the untouched, inspiring and true New Zealand wilderness.

Wilderness Guided Walk - Routeburn Trail

An opportunity to experience one of New Zealands Great Walks offering stunning views and rich bird and plant life. The smooth grade of this tack in Mt. Aspiring National Park makes for comfortable walking all the way to Flats Hut, where you will enjoy and hearty picnic lunch. Impressive waterfalls, swing bridge crossings and the crystal clear waters of the Routeburn River provide the perfect setting for your day in the wilderness. Lunch included.

Milford Track Encounter Guided Walk ex Te Anau
|
|
Your day begins at the Ultimate Hikes Te Anau Office where you will meet your guide and board your coach, you will then embark upon a short journey along the shores of Lake Te Anau to the Te Anau Downs boat harbour. You will then cruise for an hour to the spectacular northern end of the lake. Enjoy a hot drink on board with your guide. After disembarking at the start of the track we walk 1.6km (1 mile) to historic Glade House, one of the original Milford Track Lodges, dating back to the 1890's. Enjoy hot soup from the kitchen with your lunch, all included in your walk. From here the track follows the Clinton River as it meanders through rich Beech Forest for a further 3.2km (2 miles). Your guide will point out the birdlife and unique aspects of the valley, then take you off the track to show you a few places you might otherwise miss. For those who want a little more of a challenge there will be the option of returning via the Glade Burn track, giving you one final vista of Lake Te Anau before boarding the return launch.

Routeburn Track Encounter Guided Day Walk
|
Your day begins with a courtesy pick up from your Queenstown accommodation, followed by a journey along the Queenstown-Glenorchy Road. This is one of New Zealand's most scenic drives and follows the rugged shoreline of Lake Wakatipu. You will then enter the wilderness sanctuary of the Mount Aspiring National Park. Relish the invigorating 6.5km (4 mile) walk up the wide and smooth track to Routeburn Flats, with time to linger by the river as it meanders across the alpine meadow. As you walk your guide will point out the unique flora and birdlife of the Routeburn Valley. Enjoy a hot drink with lunch at Routeburn Flats Hut while taking in the splendour of the surrounding mountains.
For those who want a little more adventure, the 300m (980ft) climb, over 3km (1.9 miles) to Routeburn Falls promises to be the highlight of your day. The walk up to the waterfall is somewhat more challenging than the first section of the track, but most of our walkers make the effort and agree the view makes it all worth it.
